Cosmetic Tattoo Aftercare

Cosmetic Tattoos

You’ve been planning your new tattoo for months. Whether it’s a cosmetic tattoo or body art - it’s crucial to follow the aftercare instructions that you’ve been given.

To make sure it heals properly and maintains its look and colour; follow this tattoo aftercare guide outline.

  1. Letting your skin heal
  2. No Beauty Moisturisers & Treatments
  3. No Water
  4. No Sun & Sweat
  5. Be patient for the following 10 Days

Letting your skin heal

After your treatment or tattoo, you might experience:

  • Tenderness
  • Tingling
  • Itchiness
  • Flaking
  • Redness around the area

And that’s completely ok because that’s how our skin heals.

You can expect these symptoms to last for up to 72 hours and over-the-counter pain relief can be used to help with reducing discomfort.

Do not pick or scractch at the flakey skin, allow it to fall off naturally. Picking can cause scarring and premature loss of pigment. IMPORTANT: Once the flakes have fallen off, new skin will form and within 1-2 weeks the hair strokes will slowly reappear at a lighter shade as your skin regenerates.

Avoid Beauty Moisturisers & Treatments

Do not apply any cosmetics over tattooed area.

Do not apply Vasoline, Neosporin or other petroleum-based products while healing.

Do not apply any of the following:

  • Anti-acne products (Benzoyl Peroxide, Salicylic Acid, Proactive, etc).
  • Lightening/ skin bleaching creams (Hydroquinone, etc).
  • Anti-aging or skincare products containing Alpha Hudroxyls (AHAs), Retin-A, Lactic Acid or Glycolic Acid.

D not thread, wax or use hair removal products on the treated area while healing.

Do not bleach, tint or dye the treated area for one month following the procedure.

Avoid Water

Within 2-3 hours after your procedure, gently pat your tattooed area with a damp cotton, to wipe away any excess cream and ink. Gently wash your tattooed area over the sink with warm water and cotton balls and carefully pat dry with a tissue only. Apply a small amount of Bepanthem and repeat this process twice a day for the entire 10 days.

When in the shower or washing your face, do your best to keep your tattooed area dry and not splash too much water on your face, and keep shower steam to a minimum. Use a wash cloth or disposable cloth to wash around the area, making sure they are kept dry. Gently pat with a paper towel if they do get wet.

Avoid the Sun & Sweat

You should avoid direct sunlight as well as sunbeds and any activities which might make you sweat excessively like saunas and intense workouts for at least a month or so after your treatment.

You should also avoid chlorine, acids and skin peels for at least a month following your cosmetic procedure and tattooing.

Avoid heavy exercising and sweating for at least 10 days.

Be patient for the following 10 days

Everyone heals differently. And tattoos and cosmetic procedures are going to have different healing times for every patient.

Simply follow your aftercare instructions and look forward to seeing the amazing results that you’ve been hoping for.

Taking care of your tattoo from the beginning can mean the difference between a long-lasting, perfect result, and disappointment. Bear in mind that the colour will be darker initially and gradually get lighter and soften over time.

Depending on your skin type, a permanent makeup tattoo should be refreshed every 12-36 months. Oily skin may need to be refreshed more often compared to dry or fair skin.
